By bill1 » sat nov 23, 2019 4:35 pm hi Now a few days later i've noticed a significant amount of oil leaking from a new spot, a few inches away and onto the exhaust pipe. I know there are lots of threads on ptu but i can't find an answer to my question
Ptu is leaking (thick gummy black oil) I had them put in a new dorman ptu There is no weird noise when driving but only the propane smell on idle.
The oil level is constant and it's not leaking any oil on my floor (always garage kept on a clean epoxy floor)
After some online searching i decided to look at the ptu for leaks The entire engine is clean so it's easy to see any leaking oil Sure enough, there's a decent amount of oil that's come out of the ptu vent and leaked down the side. This $75/gallon antifreeze is leaking out of the bottom of my alde unit
None of the hoses are leaking. Over the last couple weeks i've noticed a couple small black drops under my car When i investigated it looks like it is coming from the ptu Not sure if i have the actual part correctly identified
It's the part connected to the transmission adjacent to the oil pan with a white plastic collar.
Alright folks, reaching out to hopefully get some input on how to proceed It currently is sitting at 152k miles I bought it used with about 50k miles on it I use it as a commuter vehicle
I noticed my ptu was pretty wet with gear oil in the seal area where it meets the driveshaft I took off my ptu vent/breather and discovered it's totally clogged Tried to blow air thru it and it was 100% not letting anything thru Could this be why it is leaking so badly
Could this have damaged any seals or vent tubing
What should i replace it with Is you ptu only leak, seal it and change oil water pump If you want preventive maintenance and keep rolling without thinking about at what time can it fail No problems on my '13 eb w/ 14k miles, but i have an appointment to change the ptu fluid anyway, along with a warranty repair for door ajar false alarm.
The ptu on explorer and edge do as a matter of fact have a leaking ptu issue The issue is as verified by dealer that the transfer case is unserviceable and the cases very commonly leak due to excessive heat. Had my mechanic replace my ptu due to gear oil leakage Now i think motor oil is leaking last week i took my 2009 ford edge in to get my ptu replaced due to gear oil leaking
